Elton Hayes entertaining by his fireplace! I expect they were magical times, listening to the balladeer as he sang, 'with his small guitar,' through his repertoire.
One of my favorite people, i wish there were more recordings around, in the 50s Elton was on TV many times , but then of course you could not record anything, Vidio lay years in the future.
Mike is as usual spot on with his comments here. Elton Hayes was on TV all the time in the early 50s as The Story of Robin Hood had rocketed him to fame in England. He was great in the film with his character used more than any other to link the story and its various episodes. Everyone at the time knew of Elton Hayes. I agree with Mike- he is a great favourite of mine also. His era has of course gone by and fashions have changed but he represents a style of early TV history that is on one level nostalgic but on another strangely comforting.
