I agree with Mike. The shot of the archery contest field and the background of the hill and castle is wonderful. Great Peter Ellenshaw matte shot - one of the best you will see of this art. Laurence is doing a superb job. He just seems to get the right pictures and so sharp and the colour is perfect. Brilliant work
I think that in the technique that Walt Disney used each camera angle and shot was issued in picture strip format then coloured and closely followed in the actual filming. Ken Annakin thought that this resticted the Director but he came to like it and could see the sense in why it was done that way. Ken also says that after Story of Robin Hood he became very taken and impressed with Peter Ellenshaw's matte technique and used it extensively in later films which implied that he had not been familiar with it before. He was after all a very young film director when he did this film

It's interesting to think that the film was originaly planned in picture strip form.
This is how Disney worked out his animated and later live-action movies, much to Ken Annakin's frustration!
