A favourite picture of mine of Walt Disney, Richard Todd and Joan Rice on the Robin Hood set in 1951.

Wonderful shot. I have a similar one in a foreign magazine with Walt Disney pointing the bow and arrow into the air from a slightly different angle. He did visit Denham during the making of the film as this shows. I would think that this photograph was taken at the rear of Denham Film Studios in the large wooded area there. Lovely to see this photograph though - I didnt know until recently that these shots existed.

Glad you enjoyed seeing it. There were quite a few publicity shots taken during Walt's visits to the Robin Hood film sets. I will be posting a few more in the future.

If any readers out there have any rare stills or shots from the movie that they would like to share with us all, please get in touch at:

I look forward to seeing more of these still shots. Walt Disney had come over 2 years previously for Treasure Island - his first one here and ,of course, his very first live action film. He did come up to my county of Lincolnshire to Norton Disney Near Lincoln and had photographs taken there which I think are still featured in the local pub. I also often wonder why he chose a relatively unkown Director in Ken Annakin although it proved an inspired choice. Knowing Walt Disney's attention to detail and the thorough planning that went into this film, he must have been sure of Ken Annakin's ability. Again, as with the choice of Joan Rice for Maid Marian, he was absolutely right

I loved reading this and looking at the photos. As a child I thought Richard Todd and Joan Rice were perfect in Robin Hood. I have long been a fan of Richard Todd and it is lovely to see that he is now a charming gentleman who has had to cope with such personal tragedy.
