Maid Marian visits Robin Hood's camp.

This is one of my favourite stills from Walt Disney's Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men (1952). In this beautifully arranged scene in the outlaws camp, Maid Marian (Joan Rice) explains to Robin Hood (Richard Todd) how Prince John lies to the Queen about raising money for the king's ransom.

'The greenwood has its beauty and abundance, but we're banished men milady' We all know the dialogue of every scene I should say. This is a great still. Shot on one of the many wonderful sets at Denham designed by Carmen Dillon - a real genius and very much at her best here. A famous scene no doubt.

A wonderful scene, with the faces of the outlaws lit by the firelight. Carmen had obviously based her design on the many caves that surround Nottingham and Sherwood, showing the importance she gave to detail.

As Neil says , we all know the dialogue, I too love this scene, it made me want to run away and live in the greenwood , It also leads to the wonderful Elton Hayes singing "Whistle my love"

I visited the area where they filmed Elton singing 'Whistle My Love' in Burnham Beeches. The path by the lakes is still there. It is a beautiful place and well worth a visit.

Yes my friend we must wander that path again if we can get a few of us together!
