German Film Magazine

This lovely picture of Joan Rice as Maid Marian promoting Disney's live action movie the Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men, appeared in the German film magazine 'Die Filmwoche' in 1952. If my German translator is correct, the title of the magazine means The Film Week.

Another publicity still for the film promotion - I wonder just how many there were. Joan Rice looks lovely as always and as we have said on here so many times, she was at her very best for this film and for His Majesty O Keefe also. After that things went downhill.
There does seem to be a lot of stills done around the fence she is leaning on - the same one that had Richard Todd leaning against as he chatted to the two school children - the girl did contact you I know and that was VERY interesting indeed. Lovely colour on this picture too

The film was released in West Germany in September 1952 - so a few months after us. Interesting that the British Premier was in March and the next was the USA in July - not something that could happen now. Exciting times in the film industry as films like this and Ivanhoe were released in 1952. A couple of years before this we had Treasure Island and King Solomons Mines - so they were heady days indeed.

Yes Ivanhoe was another of my all-time favourite movies...and Treasure Island....such colourful adventure romps that treated those classic stories with respect.
