At last Joan is beginning to get some of the credit she deserves. Her groundbreaking role was vital to the film as a distinctly lively and independant Maid Marian that ultimately proves that Robin is on the side of the king and that Prine John is a traitor.

Joan's Marian not only falls in love with someone below her social status (Robin is the son of a Forrester, she is the daughter of a knight) but defies the Queen Mother to seek out an outlaw!

Joan showed that Marian could be more than just decorative eye candy on the silver screen.

As we have all said before Walt Disney was right to insist she was cast in this role and I think of her as the best ever Maid Marian. Her beauty was certainly shown at its very best in Technicolor and I am sure Walt knew that instinctively even though others maybe didnt. The two big Tecnicolor films she starred in look so good even now and she shared the screen with major film stars and in fact got star billing in each. I am sure that we are all big fans of Joan Rice on this blog !!
